Rubenstein Law joined the Brain Injury Association of Florida’s Walk for TBI on Saturday, March 24th to honor people impacted by a traumatic brain injury and help raise awareness and money for this important cause.

WalkAbout Brain Injury raises awareness by involving survivors and their families in local communities throughout Florida. Started in Tallahassee in 2014 with less than 50 people, WalkAbout has grown to 4 cities and over 1,200 participants in just a few years. Their goal is to spread the WalkAbout across the state and bring awareness about brain injury to thousands each year.

Contributions to the BIAF are used to help pay the actual cost of providing educational resources, prevention/awareness programs, and services to survivors of brain injury. The BIAF consciously keeps operating costs as low as possible in order to focus contributions toward serving the TBI community. Most importantly, donations allow the BIAF to provide all services and assistance free of charge.

March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month, and it’s important to raise awareness about brain injury in Florida. Nationally, there are more cases of brain injury than HIV, breast cancer, and spinal cord injury combined. Soldiers, athletes, toddlers, teenagers, and grandparents represent the population most impacted by brain injury. Each year in Florida alone, it is estimated that 136,000 Floridians sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI), 109,000 will visit Emergency Departments, and over 10,000 will experience lifelong disabilities requiring rehabilitation and support.
