Boca Raton, FL - Bicyclist Killed in Crash with Pickup Truck on N. Federal Hwy.

Boca Raton, FL (March 4, 2023) -  A bicyclist died following a crash in Boca Raton on Friday morning, March 3rd. The accident occurred just after 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of North Federal Highway and East Palmetto Park Road.

According to Mark Economou of the Boca Raton Police Department, a 2015 Dodge pickup truck was traveling northbound on North Federal Highway. The driver attempted to make a right turn when it collided with the bicyclist, who was also on Federal Highway, in the bicycle lane. The rider, identified as 66-year-old Mark Rudow, suffered critical injuries. He was rushed to Delray Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. There were no other injuries reported.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Boca Raton Police Department.

Collisions involving bicycles do not take place as often as other types of accidents. However, they are certainly more likely to be serious and deadly. A bicycle provides no protection from the impact of a crash, and riders are fully exposed to the force of the collision. Bicycle accidents can be complex and will require a thorough investigation in order to determine the cause and whether a negligent driver should be held responsible.

We would like to offer our thoughts and condolences to the family of Mark Rudow following this fatal bicycle crash in Boca Raton.
