DeLeon Springs, FL - One Killed, One Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on Hwy. 17
DeLeon Springs, FL (February 24, 2023) - One person was killed, and another was critically injured in a wrong-way crash that occurred in DeLeon Springs on Thursday night. The accident happened around 10:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 17 near the intersection with Dickey Lane.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 24-year-old man from DeLeon Springs was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima northbound on U.S. 17 when he collided head-on with a 2008 Chevrolet Impala that was traveling northbound. The driver DeLeong Springs man, who was not identified, died at the accident scene. The Impala driver was rushed to Halifax Medical Center as a trauma alert. Neither of the victims has been identified at this time.
There is no word on what caused the driver to travel left of center. The crash remains under investigation.
