Melbourne, FL - Woman Killed in Crash on US 1 at Nelson Ave.

Melbourne, FL (March 28, 2023) -  Authorities in Melbourne responded to the scene of a fatal car accident on Saturday, March 25th. The accident took place on US Highway 1 near Nelson Avenue.

According to a report from the area, a 61-year-old man was operating a 2017 Nissan Titan when he lost control of his car. The Titan drifted into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with a 2021 Toyota Rav4 driven by Patsy Ward of Vero Beach. Ward was critically hurt in the crash. She was rushed to Holmes Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Titan, Darrell Ramsey, of Palm Beach, was taken to a hospital where he was treated for undisclosed injuries.

Police are looking into the crash at this time. It is believed that alcohol may have played a role in the collision. There is no word on potential charges.

An investigation is ongoing.

Each year, more than 3,000 people are killed in crashes on Florida's roadways. Several hundred of these fatalities happen because of impaired drivers. These drivers should not operate a vehicle as their capabilities are severely decreased when they are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

We would like to offer our thoughts and condolences to the family of Patsy Ward following this fatal DUI crash in Melbourne.
