St. Augustine, FL - Bicyclist Killed in Crash with SUV on U.S. 1
St. Augustine, FL (April 8, 2023) - A bicyclist was killed in a crash with another vehicle in St. Augustine on Friday, April 7th. The crash happened in the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 near County Road 204.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist and an SUV collided in the northbound lanes of the highway. The bicyclist suffered critical injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured in the crash. No one involved in the accident was immediately identified. Motorists were advised to avoid the scene and to find alternate routes of travel.
An investigation into the accident is underway. No additional information is available.
Bicycle accidents in Florida claim the lives of around 100 people annually. In addition, many more riders are hurt when they are involved in bicycle collisions. Bicyclists are very vulnerable to being injured when they are involved in collisions with larger vehicles.
