Zephyrhills, FL - Scooter Rider Killed in Head-On Crash on Pretty Pond Rd.
Zephyrhills, FL (March 4, 2023) - A man riding a scooter was killed in a head-on crash in Zephyrhills on Thursday, March 2nd. The accident took place in the westbound lanes of Pretty Pond Road near the intersection with Chenken Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a 74-year-old man was driving a van. The van was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Pretty Pond Road when it collided head-on with a scooter. The 43-year-old driver of the scooter suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver of the van sustained minor injuries.
The victims have not been identified at this time. There is no word on what caused the wrong-way crash to occur. An investigation is ongoing.
Fatal collisions are reported in Florida about once every three hours. We know that serious and catastrophic accidents are normally caused by negligent drivers and head-on crashes are among the most severe crashes that are reported on our roadways. Police will continue to investigate this collision in order to determine the cause.
