Bartow, FL (August 30, 2019) - A fatal accident involving a school bus and a car was reported in Bartow on Thursday, August 29th. The crash happened on County Road 640 around 5:00 p.m.
Police say that 28-year-old Michael Velasco was driving a 2017 Ford Focus on CR 640 when, for unknown reasons, his car hydroplaned directly into the path of an oncoming school bus. The bus, which had four students on board at the time, collided with the Focus. Velasco's vehicle was crushed underneath the bus following impact and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the bus and an attendant were also injured in the crash. The two were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.
