Bonita Springs, FL (September 10, 2018) - A woman lost her life over the weekend in a motorcycle crash that took place in Bonita Springs. Around 11:30 pm, the motorcycle was traveling on Imperial Parkway, near East Terry Street. The driver lost control, causing the bike to crash into a concrete wall.
19 year old Lilbet Silva Montegueado was a passenger on the motorcycle at the time of the accident. Montegueado was ejected from the bike and suffered critical injuries after colliding with the wall. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who was not identified, suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating this incident and asks anyone with information to call 239-477-1636.
Over 5,000 people were killed in motorcycle accidents in 2015. This is a large number considering that only 3% of registered vehicles are motorcycles. The rate of severe and deadly accidents among motorcycles is much higher than accidents involving passenger and other types of vehicles.
In this accident, we will have to await additional details from the crash, but it appears as though driver error may have caused the passenger's untimely death. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the victims during this difficult time.
