Boynton Beach, FL (May 13, 2019) - A Florida Highway Patrol trooper sustained a broken ankle after being hit by a vehicle while he was investigating another crash. The collision took place on Monday, May 13th, along I-95.
Officials responded to Woolbright Road and began a crash investigation. The Highway Patrol reports that the trooper was standing on the inside shoulder of the roadway, investigating the accident. He was walking back to his patrol car when a vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into him. The driver was traveling in the right lane when they lost control of their vehicle. The conditions were rainy at the time of the crash.
The trooper was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his broken ankle. There were no other injuries reported and an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
This crash underscores the fact that a car accident can happen anytime and anywhere. In some instances, a person may actually be in more danger when standing along the roadway than when they are in their vehicle. It remains to be seen who will be held responsible for this horrific accident.
