Bradenton, FL (October 28, 2019) - A 58-year-old man from Bradenton sustained critical injuries in a crash that took place on Sunday, October 27th. The crash happened around 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of US 41 and 58th Avenue West.
According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was driving a 2014 HD motorcycle in the southbound lanes of US 41. At the same time, a 23-year-old was driving a 2013 Nissan Versa northbound. The Versa driver attempted to make a left turn across the road but collided with the front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was ejected and landed in the roadway. He was then taken to Blake Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Nissan was not hurt. There is no additional information available.
Approximately 14% of all traffic-related deaths involve motorcycles. This is an astounding number, considering that just 3% of all registered motor vehicles are motorcycles. Clearly, riding a motorcycle carries a great risk of death or serious bodily injury in the event of a crash.
Motorcycle riders should always exercise caution and ensure that they are complying with all the rules of the road. However, accidents will inevitably occur, even if a motorcycle rider complies with all laws and safety precautions.
