Bradenton, FL (January 12, 2020) - The Bradenton Police Department responded to a fatal pedestrian accident on Saturday, January 11th. The crash was reported around 6:45 a.m. in the 1200 block of 14th Street West.
The Bradenton Police Department arrived at the crash scene shortly after the incident took place. Authorities report that Jesus Morrell, of Palmetto, was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a passing vehicle. Morrell was taken to Blake Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was not identified. No other injuries were reported in the crash.
Police are still investigating the accident at this time.
75% of all Florida pedestrian accidents require hospitalization due to injuries suffered by the victims. At least 20% of victims sustain serious injuries and require prolonged medical care as a result of the pedestrian crash. Further, there are about 700 people who lose their lives annually in our state as a result of a pedestrian accident. Elderly victims and children are among those most likely to sustain injuries.
