Broward County, FL (April 23, 2021) - A woman was killed in a moped crash that took place in Broward County early Friday morning. The collision happened around 3:30 a.m. on County Line Road near the Florida's Turnpike and Southwest 68th Lane.
According to police, the woman was riding a moped westbound on County Line when her vehicle was hit by a white Kia Forte. The Kia came to rest against a guardrail in the eastbound lanes. A female passenger on the moped died at the accident scene. The male driver was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital with critical injuries. The Kia driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police. There are no additional injuries reported at this time.
The crash caused both directions of County Line Road to be closed for an investigation. There is no word on potential charges. No additional details are available.
Moped and motorcycle accidents in Florida can take a major toll on victims. A small vehicle, such as a moped, is not designed to withstand the force of a major collision with a larger vehicle such as a passenger car. Riders are often thrown from their bikes following the crash which can also result in serious and possibly fatal injuries. The cause of this crash will be carefully investigated by authorities.
We extend our thoughts and sympathies to the family of the moped rider following this fatal crash in Broward County.
