Four people were killed in a tragic, head-on crash in Gainesville on Saturday, August 31st. The collision occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Southwest Williston Road.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol reported that a Toyota Highlander was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. That is when the Highlander collided head-on with a Ford Expedition. The Highlander caught fire following the crash. The fire eventually spread and overtook the Expedition of well. Fire crews arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames. The driver of the Highlander was pronounced dead. He has not been identified at this time. The driver of the Expedition, 54-year-old Jerry Leffert, Jr. along with his passengers, 75-year-old James Sweet, and 72-year-old Linda Sweet, were all killed in the crash. A third passenger in the Expedition was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
