Clay County, FL (April 25, 2019) - A 25-year-old man from Jacksonville is dead following an ATV crash on Tuesday, April 23rd.
Officials say that Daniel Sommise was riding an ATV with a 21-year-old man on Beecher Lane. When the men arrived at the intersection with Crossing Boulevard, the ATV flipped, throwing Sommise and the second occupant from the vehicle. Sommise suffered catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The other occupant was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries. He has not been identified at this time. Police are still investigating the incident and, at this time, it is unclear who was driving. Charges could be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.
Our thoughts go out to the family of Daniel Sommise in this tragic ATV crash in Clay County.
ATVs and other off-road vehicles are popular choices for fun and entertainment. However, it is important to keep in mind that an ATV must be operated safely in order to ensure that accidents do not occur. Excessive speed and inexperienced drivers are common causes of a crash involving an ATV and other non-traditional vehicles. Care must be taken to ensure that an ATV experience does not turn tragic.
