Clermont, FL (January 5, 2021) - At least two people were hurt in a crash involving two vehicles on Monday, January 4th. The collision took place on Highway 50 near the intersection with Citrus Tower Boulevard.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Clermont police officer was traveling through an intersection with her lights and siren on when the driver of a Toyota Prius entered the intersection with a green light and collided with the vehicle driven by the officer. Both the officer and the other driver were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither the officer nor the driver has been identified at this time.
No charges have been issued but an investigation is ongoing. There is no additional information available.
According to statistics published by NHTSA, a reportable car accident in Florida takes place about once every 92 seconds. A bicyclist was hit and killed by a vehcicle in Daytona Beach. The collision occurred on Friday, September 15th at George W. Engram Boulevard and Fulton Street.
