Collier County, FL (January 1, 2020) - Two people are dead following a crash in Collier County on New Year's Eve. The crash took place around 10:20 p.m. on County Line Road at the intersection with Oil Well Road.
Police report that 22-year-old Danielle Lopez was driving a 2003 Lincoln Navigator southbound on County Line. As Lopez approached the intersection with Oil Well Road, he failed to stop at a stop sign. The Navigator continued traveling southbound and Lopez lost control of the car, which went off the roadway and collided with a dirt embankment. Two passengers in the vehicle, 27-year-old Edwin Jimenez, and a second man who has not been identified, were killed as a result of the crash. Two others suffered serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Lopez was charged with driving with no license causing death and disregarded stop sign. No further details are available at this time.
We are saddened to hear of this fatal crash in Collier County. Deadly accidents take place in Florida approximately every three hours. Many fatal crashes are entirely preventable if not for the actions of at least one driver. Usually, a fatal accident is caused due to some sort of driver negligence. Florida's wrongful death laws may allow the families of innocent crash victims to seek recovery from a negligent driver.
