Crystal Lake, FL (May 5, 2019) - Two pedestrians were killed after they were struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning. The crash happened around 2:45 a.m. at the intersection of Skyview Drive and Goodyear Avenue.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Venus Drayton and 16-year-old Tiara Johnson were walking near the intersection when a white Dodge Ram pickup truck collided with them. The truck was traveling eastbound on Skyview at the time of the crash. The driver told police that he thought he saw an object in the roadway and swerved to miss it, but was unable to avoid a collision. After realizing that he struck two people rather than an object, the driver returned to the scene and waited for law enforcement to arrive.
Deputies are still investigating the incident and toxicology tests have been ordered.
