Crystal River, FL (December 31, 2020) - A woman from Pinellas County died and four others sustained injuries in a three-car crash that took place near Crystal River on Tuesday, December 29th. The crash happened around 3:00 p.m. on North Citrus Avenue near the intersection with West Basilico Street.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene. According to troopers, a 69-year-old woman from Clearwater was driving a sedan, along with a 77-year-old male passenger. At the same time, a 33-year-old Tarpon Springs woman was driving a sedan directly behind the Clearwater couple. The first sedan slowed for stopped traffic, however, the 33-year-old woman failed to reduce her speed and crashed into the back of the other vehicle, pushing it into traffic and forcing a head-on collision with a pickup truck.
The 33-year-old woman died at the scene while the Clearwater couple and two occupants of the pickup all suffered serious injuries. There is no word on their conditions and no one involved in the accident has been identified at this time.
FHP is still investigating the crash. No further details are available.
