Crystal River, FL (September 10, 2018) - A head-on collision in Crystal River claimed the lives of one person and injured two others on Sunday afternoon.
Nicholas Schwartz, 21, of Crystal Springs was driving on Citrus Avenue in a Honda SUV. Schwartz was traveling on North Citrus Avenue near the intersection with Wisconsin Court.
At the same time, Linda and Rufus Schwartz were in a Chevy Silverado traveling north on North Citrus Avenue. Suddenly, Schwartz's SUV hydroplaned, crossed the center line and struck the Silverado head-on. Schwartz was taken to Bayfront Health where he later died from his injuries. He was reportedly wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred.
Linda and Rufus Schwartz were also hurt in the crash. Linda suffered serious injuries while Rufus suffered only minor injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Authorities have said, however, that slick roads due to rain in the area may have contributed to the accident.
