Dade City, FL (July 9, 2018) – An 81-year-old Dade City man was killed on Monday in a serious accident that took place on US 301 and Jordan Road. The Florida Highway Patrol investigated.
The man was identified as 69-year-old Gerald Abrams, who was driving his 2017 Chevy Cruze at the time of the incident. He was on the inside lane of US 301 shortly after 8 a.m. when an 81-year-old man riding a bicycle tried crossing the street in front of the vehicle.
When the bicyclist was crossing on the street, the right front fender of the vehicle collided with the cyclist. The cyclist was then taken to the Bayfront Health Dade City and he died of his injuries as a result.
The name of the cyclist is not being released until the family is notified.
Bicycle accidents happen every year in Florida, causing serious injuries and taking lives. There are about 540 bicycle-involved crashes every month across Florida. They happen for many reasons, some of which are the fault of the motor vehicle drivers involved.
