Daytona Beach, FL (October 11, 2018) - A crash in Daytona Beach left one person dead on Sunday, October 7th.
The Daytona Beach Police Department reports that Jatyler Gary was traveling southbound on Ridgewood Avenue when his car left its lane of travel and veered into the path of a Dodge van. Gary's Mazda SUV and the Dodge van collided with one another. The van spun around, flipped and then skidded for several feet before ultimately colliding with a concrete pole.
The driver of the van, Joseph Irrera sustained critical injuries in the crash. Irrera was rushed to Halifax Health Medical Center but later died of severe internal injuries. Gary and a passenger sustained minor injuries.
There is no additional information available at this time and it is not clear if Gary is facing charges for his role in the crash.
Our thoughts are with the family of Joseph Irrera following this fatal Daytona Beach car accident. There is nothing as difficult as suddenly losing a loved one in a traffic crash.
Police will continue to investigate this accident and ultimately determine if Jatyler Gary's negligence caused the crash to occur. If it did, Irrera's family will have the right to pursue a legal action for wrongful death against Gary.
