Daytona Beach, FL (December 4, 2019) - A Daytona Beach police officer was injured in a crash involving two other vehicles on Wednesday, December 4th. The crash took place on Dunn Avenue around 10:55 a.m.
The officer was responding to a call when he traveled through a red light on Clyde Morris Boulevard. His lights were activated at the time he passed through the intersection. At the same time, a Dodge van traveling in the opposite direction had a green light in its direction of travel. The Dodge also proceeded into the intersection and struck the side of the patrol car. The Dodge then overturned and collided with a Ford Fusion that was stopped on Dunn Avenue.
The officer and the driver of the Dodge both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The Fusion driver was not hurt. The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol at this time.
A reportable crash takes place in Florida about every 92 seconds. Each crash must be carefully investigated by authorities who will attempt to determine how the accident took place. Police will take pictures at the scene, speak with those involved, and obtain witness statements before determining which driver was responsible for the crash. Ultimately, most crashes are caused due to negligent drivers and can result in injuries and other damages for innocent victims.
We hope that the officer hurt in this accident makes a complete recovery.
