Gilchrist County, FL (May 8, 2019) - A moped driver died in a crash that took place in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 8th. Police say that the crash occurred on State Road 26, near County Road 313, around 3:15 a.m.
According to investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol, a man riding a moped collided with a patrol vehicle operated by a Dixie County Sheriff's Deputy. The moped driver, a man from Gainesville, died at the accident scene. He has not been identified, pending family notification. The deputy was not hurt in the crash and has not been identified.
Troopers are still looking into the crash and charges are pending at this time.
