Gilchrist County, FL (May 8, 2019) - Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol have identified a moped driver that died in a crash with a deputy on Wednesday, May 8th.
Officials report that 30-year-old Walter L. Gibson died in the collision on State Road 26 near Trenton, around 12:15 a.m. Gibson was riding a moped when he was struck by a deputy with the Dixie County Sheriff's Office. The vehicle was described as a patrol vehicle but it is not clear whether the vehicle was marked. No details have been released at this time on how the crash occurred. The deputy, who has not been identified, refused medical treatment and was not hurt in the crash.
Troopers are still investigating at this time and charges are pending against the deputy.
