Groveland, FL (March 2, 2019) - A three-vehicle crash on State Route 50 led to the death of one person on Friday, March 1st.
33-year-old Irasema Gort Valdes was driving a dump truck eastbound on SR-50 when she collided with the rear-end of a Buick, driven by Derek Smart. Smart's Buick veered into the westbound lanes of the roadway and collided head-on with an SUV. The driver of the SUV, identified as a 62-year-old man from Groveland, was killed in the crash. His passenger, a 58-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries.
Valdes was not injured in the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and charges are pending against Valdes.
