Hendry County, FL (June 13, 2019) - A 52-year-old man is in critical condition following a serious crash on US-27. The crash took place around 7:00 a.m. near the intersection with Farm Drake Road.
According to initial reports, a Bruce Newton was driving southbound on US-27 when a Freightliner truck traveling next to him began swerving into his lane. Newton made an evasive maneuver to avoid the truck. The truck then made a hard right turn onto Farm Drake Road, causing Newton to collide with the rear end of the truck. Newton was seriously hurt and was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition. His passenger, Linda Newton, was seriously hurt and was also taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition.
The truck driver was not injured. Police are still investigating the crash and there is no word on potential charges at this time.
