Hernando County, FL (January 1, 2019) - A 5-year-old boy was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Hernando County. The crash happened around 4:00 pm on Monday, December 31.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a call in reference to the crash in the southbound lanes of Pomona Avenue near the intersection with Candia Street. Troopers say that the driver attempted to make an evasive maneuver to avoid hitting the boy but was unable to do so. After being struck, the boy was thrown from the bicycle and landed in the roadway. He was rushed to the trauma unit at All Children's Hospital with serious injuries. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police following the crash. Neither the driver nor the child was identified.
