Hernando County, FL (February 3, 2019) - A 39-year-old Spring Hill man is dead following a head-on collision on State Road 589. The accident took place around 11:43 am on Saturday, February 2nd.
Police say that Rhiddari D. McKenzie was traveling northbound in a 2006 Mini Cooper on SR 589. At the same time, Jose Esteban Jimenez, 39, was traveling the southbound in northbound lanes of the same roadway. Jimenez's 2014 GMC pickup truck slammed into McKenzie's vehicle head-on, causing the Mini Cooper to erupt into flames. McKenzie died at the crash scene while Jimenez sustained serious injuries and was taken to Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point for treatment.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating the accident. Weather conditions were foggy at the time and it is believed that Jimenez was drinking prior to the crash. There is no word on any potential charges at this time.
