Hillsborough County, FL (June 28, 2019) - Two Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies were hurt in a crash involving three cars on Friday, June 28th. The crash happened on US-301, near Ayersworth Glen Boulevard around 1:30 p.m.
According to initial reports, a Kia Sportage was traveling southbound on US-301 when it stopped in the roadway for unknown reasons. A Honda CRV traveling behind the Kia attempted to swerve to avoid a collision but instead struck the back of the vehicle. The Kia was then forced across the yellow line and into a Ford Taurus traveling northbound. The Taurus was occupied by a detective and deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The deputy and detective suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Tampa General for treatment. The Kia driver was transported to St. Joseph's South, also with non-life-threatening injuries. The road remained closed for several hours before reopening around 6:00 p.m. No additional details are available at this time.
The detective and deputy were taken to Tampa General Hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the Kia was taken to St. Joseph's South with minor injuries.
