Immokalee, FL (March 4, 2019) - A pedestrian suffered critical injuries after being struck by a vehicle on S. 2nd Street, at the intersection with Colorado Avenue, on Sunday, March 3rd.
The pedestrian was identified only as an adult male. Police and emergency workers arrived on-scene and a medical helicopter was called in to transport the pedestrian to Lee Memorial Hospital. There were no further updates on the pedestrian's condition, nor was there any word on whether the driver remained at the scene following the crash or how the accident took place.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area while officers remained on-scene.
Approximately 10,000 people will be injured this year in pedestrian accidents. Pedestrians are an extremely vulnerable group and most accidents involving pedestrians will lead to serious injuries or even death in the most catastrophic cases.
A pedestrian crash must be closely investigated to determine how it occurred. Authorities will take pictures of the crash scene and will perform a reconstruction of the events as they occurred. Innocent pedestrians who are hurt due to the negligence of drivers will have a legal claim for compensation.
