Jacksonville, FL (April 18, 2021) - Three people were killed in car accident that took place on State Road 13 in St. Johns County on Saturday morning. The collision happened around 1:00 a.m. near the Shands Bridge.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene. According to troopers, a pickup truck was traveling southbound on SR 13 when it left its lane of travel and collided head-on with an SUV that was traveling northbound. There were a total of 7 people inside the SUV at the time of the crash. A man and two women were killed in the collision while two were critically hurt and three sustained serious injuries. The driver of the pickup was among those who were critically hurt. The victims' identities have not been released at this time.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. There is no further information available.
According to statistics, fatal car accidents in Florida take place about once every three hours. Florida is a dangerous place for motorists, with one of the highest rates of fatal accidents in the country. Drivers should remember to always use caution and to follow all traffic and safety laws while on the roadway.
