Jupiter, FL (March 22, 2021) - One person is dead after a crash between a vehicle and two bicycles in Jupiter. The crash happened on Monday evening along W. Indiantown Road and N. Loxahatchee Drive.
There is no information on the events leading up to the accident. Rescue crews rushed to the scene where they pronounced one person dead as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. The road was backed up for several miles. Motorists were urged to find alternate routes of travel. The victims of the crash were not immediately identified.
An investigation is ongoing. There is no further information available.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were 6,664 bicycle crashes in Florida in 2019 ad 156 fatalities reported as a result. Although they are not as common as other types of accidents, a bicycle crash is usually more dangerous and deadly. Bicyclists are very vulnerable to being seriously hurt or killed when they are involved in a crash. Many bicycle accidents in Florida occur due to the behaviors of negligent drivers.
