Key Largo, FL (July 12, 2019) - A woman was killed and a toddler sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle crash that took place on US-1 in Key Largo. The incident occurred just after 8:00 a.m. near mile marker 103.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office, along with rescue workers, responded to the scene of the crash. Investigators report that several vehicles, including a tanker truck, were involved in the crash. Police have identified 30-year-old Stacey Lopez as the victim in the fatal collision. Lopez's two-year-old daughter, Naileya Clements, was airlifted from the scene to Nicklaus Children's Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities report that the crash occurred when Lopez was traveling south on US-1 in a Chevrolet Cruze. As she traveled southbound, 63-year-old Joel Sol pulled in front of her driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Lopez swerved to avoid a collision and collided head-on with a tanker truck traveling in the opposite direction.
Police are investigating the incident and the results of alcohol tests taken by Sol, who was not hurt in the crash, are pending. There is no further information available at this time.
