Key West, FL (October 11, 2018) - An elderly man died while riding his bicycle in Key West on Tuesday, October 9th.
73-year-old Ragnar V. Hammerberg was riding near 3020 N. Roosevelt Boulevard early Tuesday morning when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Kirk Meznarich of Summerland Key. Both Hammerberg and Meznarich were traveling eastbound on Roosevelt when the crash occurred. Hammerberg was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.
Police were still investigating the crash as of Wednesday. At this time, no charges have been filed though authorities say that a full investigation may take several weeks to finish. There is no additional information available at this time.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Ragnar Hammerberg. Each month, there are approximately 540 bicycle accidents reported across our state.
