Lake City, FL (August 8, 2019) - A Suwannee County fire chief died when his motorcycle was struck by an SUV on Tuesday, August 6th.
According to reports, 40-year-old James E. Sommers was going home following a Suwannee County Commission meeting. He was riding his motorcycle when he was struck by an SUV driven by an unidentified 19-year-old. Sommers suffered critical injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver of the SUV and a passenger were not injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Charges are pending at this time.
