Lake Seminole, FL (November 21, 2018) - A crash involving a Lexus and a pickup truck led to the death of a Pinellas Park woman. The crash happened on Monday, November 20th.
Florida Highway Patrol reports that 74-year-old Annmarie Desocio was driving a 2002 Lexus in the eastbound lanes of 102nd Avenue around 6:30 pm. 20-year-old Hailey Marie Mullen was a passenger in Desocio's vehicle. As the Lexus approached the intersection with 97th Street N, the vehicle collided with a green Chevrolet Silverado. The crash took place as Desocio attempted to turn left at a green light and was struck by the Silverado.
Police say that the Silverado fled the scene following the crash. Mullen died at the scene while Desocio was transferred to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Police believe that speed played a role in the crash and that the driver of the Silverado was at fault.
About 30 people are hurt in crashes every hour across Florida and a fatal crash is reported about once every three hours.
Our thoughts are with the family of Hailey Marie Mullen and we hope that Annmarie Desocio has a full recovery from her injuries in this horrific Lake Seminole crash.
Speed is a major factor in many Florida car accidents. Speeding drivers pose a risk for everyone else on the roadway. When a driver chooses to speed, their ability to react to other drivers and events that occur on the roadway is limited. With a shortened reaction time, accidents are likely to occur. A speeding driver also risks losing control of the vehicle which can obviously lead to catastrophic results.
Speeding which leads directly to a crash is a form of negligence which can result in the speeding driver being held both civilly and criminally responsible for their actions. In a crash where an innocent victim dies as a result of negligence, the victim's next-of-kin may possess the right to bring a wrongful death claim on behalf of their family member.
