Lakeland, FL (August 19, 2021) - Police in Lakeland responded to the scene of a fatal two-car accident on Wednesday. The crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. on Pipkin Road.
According to a report from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, 20-year-old Lillian Johnson was driving a 2017 Mazda 6 northbound on County Line Road. At the same time, 40-year-old Lucia Morton was driving a 2011 Chevy Silverado southbound on County Line. Morton tried to make a westbound turn onto Pipkin but collided with the driver's side of Johnson's car, causing the vehicle to strike a utility pole at the corner of the intersection.
Johnson was killed at the accident scene while Morton sustained minor injuries. Police are investigating the crash at this time. There is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed. No additional information has been released.
A fatal car accident in Florida is reported about once every three hours. When a deadly accident occurs, police must carefully investigate the collision in order to determine which driver should be held responsible.
