Lee County, FL (January 20, 2020) - The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-car crash in Lee County on Saturday, January 18th. The crash took place along Three Oaks Parkway near Estero Parkway.
Police say that an 18-year-old driver was traveling southbound on Three Oaks and moved into the left turn lane. The driver had three teenage passengers in their vehicle. At the same time, a second vehicle was traveling northbound on Three Oaks. The first driver tried to make a left turn onto Estero and a collision occurred with the second vehicle. The 18-year-old driver suffered critical injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The three passengers were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was taken with minor injuries.
Troopers charged the teenage driver with failing to stop at a red light. There are no further details available at this time.
According to NHTSA statistics, a reportable crash happens in Florida about every 92 seconds. Failing to stop at stop signs and red lights are frequent causes of crashes throughout our state. These collisions can be quite serious in nature as they often take place at higher speeds and involve major impacts, such as head-on and T-bone style collisions. This type of negligent driver can result in a life-changing crash in a matter of seconds.
