Lee County, FL (September 6, 2021) - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating following a hit-and-run accident in Lee County on Sunday afternoon. The accident happened around 3:#0 p.m. on Palm Beach Boulevard near the Moonlight Motel.
According to reports, several people were dining outside at a restaurant near the motel. At that time, a white Nissan Sentra entered the parking lot and struck a tree before crashing into tables where the diners were sitting. The Sentra then fled the scene after the collision. Three people were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. It is believed that the driver and passenger switched seats immediately following the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol and the Lee County Sheriff's Office are investigating at this time. There is no further information available.
Florida experiences more than 100,000 hit-and-run crashes each year. In 2019, hit-and-run accidents in Florida accounted for about 25% of all reported collisions in our state. Although drivers are legally required to remain at the scene of an accident, many choose to flee in an effort to avoid the legal consequences of their actions.
