Lehigh Acres, FL (March 20, 2021) - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash that took place in Lehigh Acres on Saturday. The incident took place just after 12:00 p.m. on 8th Street SW at the intersection with Sunshine Boulevard.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a motorcycle was traveling eastbound on 8th Street SW. At the same time, a 55-year-old was driving a Jeep and backing out of a driveway onto 8th Street. The Jeep driver failed to see the motorcyclist and backed into him as he rode down the street. The motorcyclist, who was not identified, died at the accident scene. Following an investigation, troopers charged the driver for improper backing.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing. There is no further information available.
Motorcycle riders are at great risk of being seriously injured or killed when they are involved in a crash in our state. According to statistics, at least 80% of all Florida motorcycle accidents result in some type of injuries. A motorcycle accident in Florida is far more likely to cause injuries than a crash involving other types of vehicles. Sadly, many innocent victims are injured in these collisions.
