Lehigh Acres, FL (September 12, 2018) - Two students at a bus stop were struck by a school bus mirror. The incident took place on Tuesday, September 11th in Lehigh Acres. The students, both identified as female, were standing at the bus stop when the bus struck both of them in the left arm, according to reports by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The students were examined on scene and later transported to Golisano Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Other students on board the bus were moved to a different bus after the collision. Authorities reviewed footage of the incident in an effort to determine who was at fault.
Both girls involved stated that the school bus stop was not safe and expressed that they would like to see changes in where the bus loads and unloads students.
Our thoughts go out to the students who were injured in this unfortunate school bus accident.
School bus safety is a top priority for all school districts and school administrators. No one wants to see a child injured in an accident involving a bus. Many times these accidents occur through the negligence of other drivers. In some cases, the school bus driver themselves can be at fault. Each incident must be closely examined to determine which party was negligent and who should be responsible for the injuries sustained as a result.
