Matecumbe Key, FL (October 9, 2018) - A woman from New York suffered critical injuries in a crash that occurred in Matecumbe Key on Friday, October 5th.
Amanda M. Santiago of Saugerties, New York was driving a 2017 Nissan Altima on US 1 near mile marker 73 when she collided head-on with a tractor-trailer driven by 72-year-old Elian Quinones of Homestead. Santiago suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a Miami-area hospital in critical condition. Quinones suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Jackson South Medical Center in Kendall.
The highway remained closed for nearly five hours while officers investigated th crash.
