Miami, FL (August 24, 2021) - Police in Miami responded to the scene of a car accident on Tuesday, July 24th. The accident occurred just before 6:00 a.m. on I-95 near the Golden Glades Interchange.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a driver was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when his vehicle collided with a northbound SUV. The SUV went over a wall and plunged to the ground below. The SUV driver died at the scene of the accident while the passenger was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. The wrong-way driver was taken to Aventura Hospital in critical condition.
None of those involved have been identified at this time. An investigation into the crash is underway.
In 2019, more than 3,000 people lost their lives in Florida traffic accidents. This number has remained steady over the past several years as the number of motorists and reported accidents have increased. While no one ever expects to be involved in a serious crash, the accidents take place on a daily basis. Police will continue to investigate this accident to determine the cause.
