Miami, FL (December 4, 2019) - An elderly man was killed in a hit-and-run crash that took place in Miami on Tuesday, December 3rd. The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest 13th Avenue and 54th Street.
According to reports, Leonel Kindelan was walking in the area and attempted to cross the street when he was hit by a black Chevrolet SUV. The 68-year-old Kindelan suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead. The SUV then fled the scene immediately after impact and before authorities could arrive at the scene. The driver has not been located at this time.
Police have not released any additional information and an investigation is ongoing.
Hit-and-run crashes account for 25% of all reported crashes in Florida. This number equates to approximately 100,000 reported hit-and-runs each year. The perpetrator of a hit-and-run crash will face consequences for their actions, including criminal penalties as well as potential civil liability. Unfortunately, many hit-and-run accidents will involve serious and fatal injuries to innocent victims.
