Miami Heights, FL (December 28, 2020) - One person was killed and six others suffered injuries after a wrong-way crash on Sunday in Miami Heights. The accident took place in the westbound lanes of Quail Roost Drive near Southwest 113th Avenue.
According to Lt. Alex Camacho of the Florida Highway Patrol, a white Mercedes-Benz SUV was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Quail Roost when it collided head-on with another vehicle. The ensuing collision resulted in four other vehicles being involved in the crash. The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene. One person was pronounced dead while six other victims were transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. The crash caused the road to be closed for several hours and motorists were urged to avoid the scene. Troopers have not determined the cause of the crash at this time and there is no word on the identities of those involved.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
Fatal car accidents are reported in Florida about once every three hours. Many crashes occur due to the actions of negligent drivers which cause the loss of a substantial number of innocent lives every year.
