Myakka City, FL (July 17, 2021) - A 21-year-old man was killed and his passenger suffered critical injuries after a single-car crash on Saturday morning in Myakka City. The collision occurred just before 4:30 a.m. on State Road 64 near Verna Bethany Road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver was operating an SUV when he lost control of the vehicle. The car went off the shoulder of the before striking a guardrail and overturning. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. A 20-year-old male passenger was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. Neither of the victims have been identified at this time.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
