Naples, FL (April 16, 2020) - A 72-year-old man was killed in a crash that took place in Naples on Thursday, April 16th. The crash took place on Flounder Drive near US 41.
According to reports, Dennis Barefoot was driving a golf cart eastbound on Flounder Drive around noon. At the same time, 51-year-old Sergio Ortega Silva was driving a Waste Management truck westbound on Flounder when the truck suddenly backed up and struck Barefoot's golf cart. Barefoot was pronounced dead at the crash scene. There were no other injuries reported.
The crash is under investigation at this time. There is no word on whether any charges are expected.
According to statistics, car accidents in Florida take place about every 92 seconds. While some crash victims will be fortunate to escape serious injuries, many crashes will result in catastrophic outcomes, including death.
