Naples, FL (September 22, 2018) - A fatal T-bone collision was reported on Thursday, September 20th in Naples. Florida Highway Patrol responded to the intersection of Airport Pulling Road and Orange Blossom Drive around 8:40 pm on Thursday in reference to a two-vehicle crash.
When they arrived, FHP troopers conducted an investigation where they learned that Julio Rodriguez Vazque, 33, was traveling north on Airport Pulling Road, near an intersection with Orange Blossom Drive. As he approached a traffic signal a 2015 Hyundai Genesis traveling on Orange Blossom Drive struck the side of Vazque's truck. Both vehicles came to a stop in the intersection. The Genesis driver sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead. Vazque was transported to North Collier Hospital with serious injuries.
Police have not identified the Genesis driver at this time. There is no word if charges will be filed as an investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the driver killed in this crash in Naples. Someone dies in a crash every 3 hours on Florida's roads, and crashes that occur in intersections can be difficult to investigate. When a crash happens at these locations, police may rely on cameras and witness statements of other drivers to establish which vehicle had the right of way at the time of the collision. Failing to yield the right of way to another vehicle is considered negligence and leads to many personal injury cases across our state each year.
