Naples, FL (September 5, 2021) - A passenger was killed in a head-on car accident that took place on I-75 in Naples on Sunday. The collision occurred around 2:45 a.m. near mile marker 106 and Pine Ridge Road.
Troopers say that a 23-year-old man from Naples was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when he collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by a 26-year-old man from Miami. The Miami man suffered minor injuries, however, his passenger died in the accident. The wrong-way driver also sustained minor injuries. The deceased victim was not immediately identified. The road was closed for more than six hours while officials investigated the scene.
An investigation is still ongoing. There are charges pending against the 23-year-old driver.
According to statistics, more than 3,000 people died in Florida car accidents in 2019. Drivers in Naples are not immune from suffering the effects of a serious or deadly crash.
