Naples, FL (March 1, 2019) - A Naples man was airlifted to the hospital after being a struck by an impaired driver in a wrong-way crash on Thursday, February 28th.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 47-year-old Joshua A. Westley was driving the wrong way on an I-75 off-ramp around 9:45 p.m. when he collided with a pedestrian attempting to cross the road. 41-year-old Ryan D. Evanson was crossing from the east to west along the shoulder of the roadway when he was hit by the right side mirror of Westley's 2017 Ford F-150, throwing Evanson onto the grassy shoulder of the roadway, before Westley ultimately fled the scene.
Westley was located in a nearby parking lot. Following an investigation, he was arrested and charged with DUI causing serious bodily injury. Evanson suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital. There was no further word on his condition.
Our thoughts are with Ryan Evanson at this time, and we hope he receives the treatment necessary to facilitate a complete recovery.
